OVER 500 SUSPECTS LINKED TO CRIMES RANGING FROM MURDER, ATTEMPTED MURDER, ROBBERY, RAPE, ASSAULT, BURGLARY, illegal MINING ARRESTED 

POLOKWANE–The South African Police Service in Limpopo, during weekly Operation Shanela ("Kukula" ) conducted from 29 April to 05 May 2024, has made a series of impactful arrests and the dismantling of criminal networks.

Through meticulous planning and coordinated efforts, the dedicated men and women in blue managed to arrest five hundred and fifty eight (558)* suspects linked to crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, robbery, rape, assault, burglary, illegal mining, malicious damage to property, possession and dealing in illicit drugs, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition to contravention of immigration Act.


Among those arrested, 139 were for contravening the immigration Act, 53 for assault GBH, 48 for possession and dealing in drugs, and 43 for illegal dealing in liquor.

Furthermore, police confiscated one illegal firearm and ammunition, other items that included cellphones, counterfeit goods, drugs, alcohol, dangerous weapons (knives), and cash amount of money.


" The success of our weekly Operation Shanela would not have been possible without the invaluable support and collaboration of our partners," said provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe 

"Together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding our communities and holding accountable those who seek to undermine the peace and security of our society," concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.


Some of the suspects have already appeared before their respective Magistrate Courts across the province.
