The incident occurred over the weekend after a family fued erupted.
It’s believed the suspect used a brick to hit his cousin who died at the scene.
During the process, the 40-year-old suspect believed to be a drug addict, smashed all the house windows and broke some of the furniture.
Police say, the suspect also attacked his mother, who was then rushed to the hospital the same day but the cousin was found three days later and his body was starting to decompose.
This incident also angered the community of Zola 3 because the deceased was a community patroller.
It’s believed that the suspect has been problematic under the pretence of being mentally ill.
The suspect has been booked and detained at the Johannesburg prison.
The 40-year-old will appear at the Protea Magistrate’s court next week.
"Through Police intelligence and proper investigation, the police discovered that a family member was concerned in the murder and was brought to book for further investigation," said police Vusi Thokwan.
"We appeal to the community that violence has never been an answer, there is a family court available to assist with family issues and psychological assistance will be provided if necessary," said Thokwan. -#JoziFmNews
