A culpable homicide case against a Free State man, who was arrested after his girlfriend was mauled to death by his pit bulls, has not been enrolled in court. The tragic event occurred on Monday in Namibia Square, near Bloemfontein. The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was visiting her boyfriend when she was attacked by his three pit bulls


Arrest and Charges

The 42-year-old man was arrested two days later in Mangaung. Despite being charged with culpable homicide under the Animal Matters Amendment Act of 1993, he did not appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court as scheduled on Thursday. Police spokesperson Thabo Covane described the scene where the woman was found severely injured by the dogs. “The police rushed to the scene and found the 28-year-old victim lying on the ground, severely bitten by the dogs. The injuries were mostly on the lower parts of the body,” Covane said. Members at the scene had to put down three of the dogs, while the local SPCA took another dog and its puppies to safety.
