Fire-fighters have successfully contained the fire that broke out at the Zola Substation on Wednesday Morning.

Around 9am, areas like: Dobsonville, Emdeni, Jabulani, Moletsane, Mofolo North, Naledi, Tladi, Zola and Zondi were plunged into darkness.

Joburg Emergency Services Management spokesperson Xolile Khumalo says the fire fighters will remain on the scene to address the hotspots.

Eskom Spokesperson Innocentia Zabala says the fire was extinguished around 14:15 pm.

Zabala says their safety department is currently accessing if the area is safe for technicians to kick start their work.

“When the substation and the site is deemed safe to access, then investigations on the cause of the fire will be conducted. Work to restore power supply will resume afterwards," said Zabala.

She says there’s still no estimated time for restoration for all the affected areas.-#JoziFmNews
